A) How Scrum Works

  • Work is organized in timeboxed Sprints, with the team planning and committing during Sprint Planning.

B) Scrum Roles

D) Scrum Events

Fixed-length cycles called Sprints, usually 1-4 weeks long. Each sprint includes these events:

  • Sprint Planning: Team and Product Owner decide what work will be done in the upcoming Sprint and create the Sprint Backlog.
  • Daily Scrum: A 15-minute daily meeting where the team discusses progress, plans for the day, and any blockers.
  • Sprint Review: At the end of the Sprint, the team demonstrates the completed work to stakeholders and gathers feedback.
  • Sprint Retrospective: The team reflects on the Sprint process and identifies ways to improve in the next Sprint.

E) Scrum Metrics

  • Velocity: The number of story points (or work items) completed by the team in a Sprint. Used to forecast future performance.
  • Sprint Burndown Chart: Tracks the remaining work in a Sprint over time. Helps monitor progress and identify if the team is on track to meet its Sprint goal.
  • Release Burndown Chart: Shows progress toward completing a set of work for a release, across multiple Sprints.
  • Team Satisfaction / Health Checks: Qualitative feedback from team members on collaboration, workload, and morale – often discussed in Retrospectives.

Contra

  • Requires high team discipline: Without strong commitment to Scrum principles, the process can break down.
  • Not ideal for all project types: Timeboxed Sprints may not suit exploratory, reactive, or ad hoc work.
